Registrations are open for the Gran Fondo Alberto Contador

  • The IX edition of the Gran Fondo Alberto Contador will take place on the 21st of September in Oliva, Valencia.
  • This new edition will offer two routes, one measuring 167 kilometres and the other 115, both closed-off to traffic.

Registrations open today for a new edition of the Gran Fondo Alberto Contador. The event will take place on the 21st of September in Oliva, a municipality that has already hosted the two previous editions due to its orography, its landscapes and its climate, all of which make it a unique setting for cycling.

New in 2019 for the Gran Fondo Alberto Contador are two routes. One is 167 kilometres long and is challenging, with nine climbs and 3.114 metres of slopes. With barely any flat stretches, its highest peak will be the Muro de Tollos, standing at an altitude of 863 metres. The Mirador del Xap will also be climbed 120 kilometres into this route. “We have included all of the mountain passes where professional cyclists usually train in the Gran Fondo Alberto Contador. The particularly challenging ones are Coll de Rates and Mirador del Xap, which has considerable ramps, making it a nice way to end the 167 kilometres”, says Alberto Contador. The Coll de Rates is also part of the shorter route that measures 115 kilometres and has 1.766 metres of slopes. Mirador del Xap has average slopes of around 10% with ramps that reach inclinations of up to 18% and even 20%, both at the start and at the end of the climb. Registrations are unique, with the possibility of choosing the route to complete.

The starting and finish lines will be located at the Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort, which will be the focal point of the gran fondo. As the headquarters and official accommodation of the Gran Fondo Alberto Contador, it will contain an event Expo area and will feature all of the services and amenities cyclists require.

Arrivo Cycling, the event’s official travel agency, offers special packages consisting of the race’s participation bib, accommodation in the Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort Hotel with spa circuit included, a gran fondo commemorative jersey, and other special services.

The countdown to challenge Alberto Contador in his own terrain has begun. The Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a España winner recommends that participants train for the race due to its “challenging nature”, but he especially wants them to “enjoy this cycling celebration in a route that is completely closed-off to traffic, which is a true privilege”.

Participants wishing to register can do so through the Gran Fondo Alberto Contador website:
